New Temporary Premises Open!
 Cork County Council has the library service operating from a temporary premises at Railway View from Wednesday, 21st December 2016. Although the Library has been providing a weekly mobile service, all day on Thursdays from the Cork Marts grounds, the new location at Railway View will allow the restoration of full time hours and access to the full range of books and other items.
Cork County Library would like to thank Cork Marts for their co-operation with the mobile library service on Thursdays.

Macroom Library offers a wide range of books for lending to adults and children, including books on tape, CDs and CD-ROMs for adults and children, covering various areas of education and hobbies. The following newspapers are available for viewing in the library: The Irish Examiner, The Irish Times, The Corkman, The Southern Star, The Farmer’s Journal and The Evening Echo and various magazines. Macroom Library has a collection of local history material covering Macroom and surrounding areas, as well as a general reference collection that includes the Electoral Register, ordinance survey maps, planning applications received, along with decisions made by Cork County Council and the County Development Plan, 2009. A number of specialist collections are also held:

  • The Golden Collection
  • Plays by T. C. Murray
  • The Dan Joe Kelleher Archive on computer. This is a collection of Videotapes recorded in the 1980s and transferred to computer for easy viewing. Contents include footage from Agricultural Shows, Drama / Pantomimes, Sport Events etc. held in the Macroom and surrounding areas. This interesting collection can be viewed in the Library during opening hours.

Public internet access is available on 5 PCs. Advance booking for this service is advisable. Disability Access PC - This is a PC to aid people who are blind, visually impaired or with a learning disability. Specialised software (Zoomtext, Jaws, Kurzweil 1000 and 3000) enables the user to view functions and read material in large print format on screen. Affinity Large Print Viewer - Material can be viewed in large print format. This medium is ideal for viewing bills or documents with small lettering and for writing letters. The machine is easy to use as it is manually controlled and staff can assist users. Opening Hours

  • Tuesday - 10am-7:30pm
  • Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday - 10am-5:30pm
  • Closed Mondays



  • Story time is held every Saturday at 12.00 and is presented by a member of library staff.
  • The Adult Book Clubmeets on the first Wednesday of each month at 11.30am.
  • A Gramophone Recital is held on the second Friday of each month at 11.00am.
  • The Macroom Purlies Knitting Group is held at 11.30am on the first and third Thursdays of every month.
  • Ciorcal Cainte meets every second Thursday in the month at 11.30am.
  • Bridge Club meets every second Wednesday in the month at 10.30am
  • Art exhibitions are hosted during the year - contact the library to book space.
  • Various activities are held throughout the year, including involvement in local festivals such as the Bealtaine Festival, the Summer Arts Programme, the Macroom Food Festival and the Children's Books Ireland Literary Festival.
  • Library events are periodically featured on the local television station, LTV.
